In Cambodia, there has been the first death from bird flu, a disease spread by birds, after which the World Health Organization and other organizations have raised a wave of concern. According to preliminary reports, an 11-year-old girl died of bird flu in Cambodia last week. This is the first case of death from bird flu i.e. H5N1 in South Asia.
Cambodia's health minister confirmed that the virus was first seen only in birds in 2014 and now not only has it been transmitted to humans, but there has also been a fatality.
When experts of the World Health Organization made an urgent visit to Cambodia, by that time it had been confirmed in two more members of the same family.
On the other hand, Dr. Sylvie Brand, head of the epidemiology department at the World Health Organization, said that bird flu has been transmitted from birds to small mammals, including otters and nymphs.
The World Health Organization has warned all countries of the seriousness of the issue, expressing the fear of the spread of more cases of bird flu.
A few weeks ago, bird flu was discovered in Asia, Europe and Africa, where it is also affecting poultry farms, which is why the head of the World Health Organization has called it a concern and indicated further investigation.
It should be noted that according to the World Health Organization, 873 cases of H5N1 and 458 deaths have been reported from 2003 to 25 February 2023 in 21 countries of the world.
